Wines Tasting Notes and New Releases
2010 Reserve Chardonnay New Releases
This wine follows in the footsteps of its highly awarded predecessors. Perfectly ripe hand harvested clean fruit was
whole bunch pressed directly to a combination of new and one year old French oak puncheons for fermentation and maturation
until bottling in November 2011. A beautifully balanced Chardonnay that is drinking nicely now but will benefit from another
2-3 years in the bottle. Drink to 2020 Our winemaker suggests that this wine is better than the 2009 vintage – a very big call!
2010 Barrel Fermented Rose New Releases
Shiraz grapes, crushed and chilled with 18 hours on skins for colour and character. Total fermentation and maturation in two and three year
old French oak puncheons. This is a dry rosé of the classic French barrel ferment style. Bright cherry in colour with lifted dark cherry
characters on the nose. The palate is fruit driven but dry, with generous weight and length.A serious complex Rosé. Drink – now to 2016
2010 Hilltops Shiraz New Releases
This wine is a wonderful example of cool climate Shiraz showing spice, white pepper and blackberry fruit flavours. It exhibits seductive,
silky smoothness now but will reward cellaring up to 10 years. In time, this will prove to be a great example of cool climate Shiraz.
2010 Home Vineyard Shiraz New Releases
This is our first Home Vineyard Shiraz, High quality handpicked fruit was destemmed, crushed and fermented in small batches with some
whole bunches included. Post fermentation the wine was transferred to a selection of older French & American oak barrels for maturation
until bottling in November 2011. The spicy, earthy bouquet is pure Hunter. Whilst the oak has softened the wine it does not override
its subtle plummy softness. Drinking beautifully already, it will be much better with 3-5 years bottle age and can be cellared to 2020 and beyond.
2011 Mistletoe Lane Verdelho 94/100 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion (AWC) 2012
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a vineyard in nearby Mistletoe Lane that has consistently produced great Verdelho. The palate reveals
crisp, tangy, fruit salad characters with citrus undertones and a hint of sweetness to finish. Excellent with Asian based cuisine.
2011 Home Vineyard Semillon Drink now until 2016
Hand harvested from low cropped vines, whole bunch pressed to extract only first quality juice. Cold fermented and bottled early to retain
the crisp acidity and lemony grapefruit characters typical of previous Semillons from this vineyard.Cellar with confidence to 2020.
2010 Silvereye Semillon A low alcohol wine – 10% – ideal for lunch
The 15th vintage of this wine. Less dry than traditional semillon. Light honey in colour wwith tinges of green, with some residual sweetness.
The bouquet shows tropical fruit, green apples, citrus and grass. The palate is soft and lemony with balanced sweetness.
A clean acid finish leaves the palate refreshed. Excellent aperitif, complements Asion cuisine, spicy food, cold fruit salad or a cheese platter.
Cellar for 5 to 6 years, but best to drink young.
2010 Chardonnay
Perfect fruit, handpicked, whole bunch pressed with total barrel fermentation and maturation in older French oak barrels.
This is a fruit driven full flavoured generous palate with mineral, melon, stone fruit flavours combining with creamy oak undertones.
Drink, now to 2015. Great follow up to the fantastic 2009 vintage.
2009 Petit Muscat Best served chilled
This is the best version we have made of this wine. The same Muscat grapes as we used for the Mozcato but instead of
fermentation we fortify (add alcohol) to the freshly pressed grape juice. Made in the style of Muscat Baumes de Venise from France.
A beautiful light desert wine with none of the cloying characteristics of typical dessert wines.Excellent with fruit-based desserts
and full bodied cheeses.
2011 Sparkling Mozcato
Fresh, fragrant spicy on the nose with intense tropical fruit characters on the palate and a long clean finish.
Looks like a very high quality Italian Moscato D’Asti. Our best one yet! Great served well chilled as an aperitif or at the end of a meal
with fresh fruit. Fantastic Summer drink! One for the “Witching Hour”, girls! FYI – Witching hour – the time between the kids coming
inside for the night and Dad arriving home!
2010 The Rose The ideal verandah wine
This is Mistletoe’s 14th Vintage of this Rosé style. Made from whole bunch pressed Shiraz with a small amount of Hilltops Cabernet
added to increase complexity. Beautiful clear, bright, red/purple in colour with a spicy red berry fruits bouquet.
The sweetness is in balance with the acidity giving a clean crisp finish on the palate. Ideal wine to accompany Asian cuisine or just served chilled
as an aperitif.
2009 Hilltops Shiraz Cabernet Cellar with confidence until 2021
The softness and spiciness of Hunter Shiraz has wonderful synergy with the firmer tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Young (Hilltops)
region of South Western NSW. Maturation for 20 months in older French oak barrels has added complexity to the wine prior to it being bottled
in Octboer 2010. It is recommended that the wine be decanted for one hour prior to consumption.
2009 Reserve Shiraz A classic, quality Hunter Shiraz
Single vineyard wine from a 40 plus year old Pokolbin vineyard that supplied the fruit for our much acclaimed Grand Reserve Shiraz 2007.
The stunning nose shows the power of this wine. The palate is long and soft with plum and black fruit flavours in balance with smokiness
from the new French oak puncheons in which it was matured until bottling in November 2010. Cellar with confidence until 2025 and beyond.
